The weather is unseasonable now.
I believed the weather information from the Web (Tenkitokurasu "Mt.Kumotoriyama") on Thursday's article that was released "it will be fine for mountaineering from Friday to Saturday". I had booked the Kumotori-sanso Lodge on the night of Thursday, and I decided to trek on the next route.
The target mountain is Mt.Kumotoriyama (h= 2017 m), and this is one of the 100 famous mountain in Japan.
The route was start from Mitsumine Shrine, Kumotori-sanso Lodge, Mt.Kumotoriyama , Mt.Nanatsuishiyama and finished to JR Okutama Terminal Station. Since the mountain trail to Mt.Kumotorisan is a good maintained condition, so I hardly lost the right path, but the direction board is written in Japanese, but if you are a foreigner and you do not understand the Japanese Kanji, I guess the trek might be a little difficult. I carried out the previous route planning by Garmin GPS, so I could walk on about the same planning route.
About the access to the Mitsumine Shrine
I used the shuttle bus from Mitsumineguchi Terminal Station of Chichibu Railway at 9:35am.
The National Route 140 to the Mitsumine Shrine is closing now by the mountain soil fall to the road. Therefore, the bus had been operating by using the detour route. I arrived about at 10:50am to the Mitsumine Shrine about 20minute behind.
The mountain trek of Mt.Kumotoriyama
There were few clouds in the sky, and since it had been clearing up, I thought that the weather will be fine condition that the same one as a forecast. I did the preparations before beginning to walk using the space of a bus shelter. Since I picked the camera out from the backpack, and had been hungry, I ate one rice ball bought at the convenience store.
It was 11:00am or so that I began to walk along the mountain path.
The uphill grade of the mountain trail became severe gradually.
I walked up the good maintained path in the grove, there were little direct sun rays in it. I got soaked in sweat immediately, because there were no wind and the humidity was very high. My undershorts was damped with sweat that was flowing from the back. After one hour walking, when I sit on a bench, the form of the hips remained distinctly like leaving a stamp behind.
Presence of the animal
It was on Mt.Shiraiwasan. When I put down the backpack on a bench and I was drinking the water, I heard the sound of footsteps of something approaching to me from the back. I turned to look the direction slowly, and I had found a deer was observing my appearance.
The distance to the deer was about 10m. I guess that was the strategy of the deer which gets the food from a mountaineering visitor. If I prepared some foods to the deer, it'll come close to me more, perhaps.
I got my camera in a slow motion and took the picture of the deer. The deer gave up a food acquisition and left the place, because he thought he could not get any food from me.
Well, I could not find the alps flowers on the mountain path. A manager of the Kumotorisanso Lodge talked the reason why I did not see any of the alps flower in the mountain, the flowers had been eaten by the deer as their food.
The Kumotori-sanso Lodge
I reached the Kumotori-sanso Lodge at 4:00 pm.
The size of the room I stayed overnight was a room of eight tatamis and was a room of the edge of the first floor. It was a weekday, so probably because the lodge was vacant, I could stay at this room alone. I tried to connect to the www from my room, but it could not communicate neither smart-phone nor mobile-phone. However, there was a narrow communication space by docomo mobile phone service in the reception hall. I could not communicate to WWW from my room by a smart phone.
The washroom and toilet of this Kumotori-sanso lodge are installed in the hut about 10 m away from the main building with a bedroom and a dining-room. A toilet is a Japanese style of a flush. The toilet lodge is forbidden from entering with its shoes on. A washroom is located in open area without a roof, and leading the spring water which can be drunk, and the water was flowing out sufficiently. There was no toilet place which we can use in a building with a bedroom.
I removed clothing wet with sweat and changed it into dry clothing. In order to pass comfortably in the room, dry spare clothing is indispensable. I took airing a wet clothing dry in the room. I thought that I want to drain the wet clothing dry perfectly, and I asked a lodge manager the place of the drying room. At the day, a drying room was not operated, so I had to drain it in the room by using hanger. Since it was very humid day, I worried whether it will be drained till the next morning.
When I opened the window, the outside air was cool. I saw the blue sky partially in the east direction, but the cloud was covering the west mountain side.
A dinner time was from 6:00 pm, and a breakfast was from 5:00 am.
The dinner in Kumotori-sanso Lodge
The menu of the dinner was rice foods and main dish was a hamburger, potato salad, an omelet, wild grass, and miso soup. I became a friend with a woman from Nagano prefecture that came up to this mountain lodge. I met her at a dining-room again. She said that she'll go to the summit of the mountain after she finished the dinner. The sky was still thick clouds, it began to grow dark. I thought there was no expectable fine view from the summit of the mountain. The boiled rice was delicious, so I required a little more rice. I got enough, and I preferred not to move.
I was thinking "I must order tomorrow's lunch", but I was lieing back, relaxing and listening to the radio in my room. It was around 7:00 pm, I required the lunch box on tomorrow to the front person. It had been refused from a cook-room, said "Since the order cannot be received, because the preparation already finished." The distance that I walked in the mountain was long, I worried whether my energy could be kept tomorrow.
At the bed
The weather forecast will be flown from the radio periodically. But it is regarding the wide area, what I want is the local area weather information of my walking path area. I turned defiant with an air of resignation, and I thought I wanna be into a bed immediately.
I put down a mat on tatami floor, and I put over the blanket on it. And I used a upper futon. Since there was a lot of beddings, I could use as much as you like, but I didn't feel cold with these beddings as enough for me. Although I turned off the room lamp and closed eyes, I could not sleep because of the speaking voice from the second floor.
About 8:00pm, the voice was stops and went quiet. I had fallen asleep automatically. However, every about 2 hours, I awoke and was looking at the clock. I awoke at 4:00 am.
I checked the time of sunrise by GPS, it was 5:08 am. Since mealtime was from 5:00, I thought it was impossible to see the sunrise after the breakfast. When I opened my ears to hear the sound of outside, I heard the rain falling a little. I thought it might be difficult to see the sunrise. I was hoping in the bed that becoming a fine weather till I leave the lodge. About 4:30 am, I felt hungry.
At the breakfast
The breakfast is 5:00 am.
I forgot to take a picture of the breakfast. My brain was full of lunch.
I thought if I had no lunch box when I leave the lodge, I cannot move on the way because of the lack of energy. I thought one small rice ball is enough for me to save the stuck situation, so I decided to consult once again with a lodge manager "Please make me a small lunch".
In the weather forecast of a radio, it was said that the weather of the Kanto district changes suddenly or has the possibility of a thunderbolt. I thought about the route to go down the mountain. I thought the main route to Okutama Terminal Station was two. I saw the state of the weather at the branch point from which it gets down to Kamosawa or Mt.Takanosu, and it was made to decide whether the route of a schedule or the route from which it gets down to a Kamosawa would be used at the beginning. To check the dryness condition of the clothes, I touched them. It has not got dry perfectly, in addition I felt it somewhat cold. The trousers have got dry mostly and I thought that it seems to be OK. But, I didn't want to wear a long-sleeved T-shirt that felt cold. Since the shirt had a reserve, I decided to wear the T-shirt of the dry short-sleeved shirt, and to walk. Since it is somewhat low-temperature, i thought I might feel cool at first, but when I walked for a while, the body will be hot. And I decided to walk in that dress.
Before the dawn, I went to the washing space, and washed the face, and looked the sunrise glow at east sky from the footpace of steps. The sunrise glow was beautiful and the moon was still seen.
When I went to the dining-room, it met the woman who came from Nagano. She ordered a bento as a breakfast, and her backpack was put in a mountain lodge. She was going to go to the summit of the mountain just now.
Making a promise that we'll meet at the summit of the mountain again, I took breakfast. Before taking a breakfast, I asked the lodge manager to make a lunch. He consulted with a cook, and promised me he made somehow. After the negotiation, they asked my walking time from Mitsumine shrine to the lodge so as to consider my physical strength. And he imagined the walk time to Okutama Terminal Station from considering my physical strength. He said, "You may not need a lunch on the mountain path." I finished breakfast quickly, purchased the lunch and the drink (POCARI SWEAT) which I had made, filled them in the backpack, and left the mountain lodge behind.
In the weather forecast of the NHK radio, since information that there is possibility of a thunderbolt and local severe rain in six prefecture of Kanto area, I decided to aim at Okutama Terminal Station and walk on as fast as possible.
From a mountain lodge to the summit of a Mt.Kumotoriyama, it took about 20 minutes.
When I arrived at the summit of the mountain, she went up to the direction directions stand, and was looking at the surrounding mountains. I felt strongly that she really likes to walk on the mountain.
To be sure, the view from the summit of Mt.Kumotoriyama was wonderful. If there were few clouds, I thought that it was probably more wonderful. Although she still stood on the stand and she was looking at mountains, but I stopped at the summit of the mountain only several minutes. I said good bye to her and hurried along the way to Okutama Terminal Station.
The bothy of a Mt.Kumotoriyama located near the summit of Mt.Kumotoriyama.
The Ishione ridge walk is continueing from here, the wonderful scene was able to be seen on the ridge path similarly from the summit of the mountain.
(At the left side of a panoramic picture, you can see Mt.Fuji, and right side is a bothy of Mt.Kumotoriyama)
The Ishione walk way is a ridge path which the good slope of a view follows.
I went down the mountain slope, looking at change of the clouds which cover the summit at Mt.Fuji.
Reaching branch to Kamosawa, I checked the state of the weather and judged. I thought the weather will not be rain for a while, and I aimed at JR Okutama Terminal Station. I did my best to walk to Okutama Terminal Station as soon as possible on the Ishione ridge path.
When I came up to Mt.Nanatsuishiyama, I had walked too much faster at the early stage, so I had made beans on the thumb of both legs. I took off shoes at the Takanosu hut, checked the state of the beans of the foot thumb, and pasted up the BandAid to the diseased part.
Initially, I was thinking that I would climb Mt.Takanosuyama, but my intention was collapsed when the beans were made into the foot thumb. Then, I walked an indirect route of Mt.Takanosuyama. The indirect path was almost flat but the height of the branch over the mountain path was as low as about 150 cm, so I had to walk with bowed posture to avoid it.
In my faint memory which walked along this way before, I thought that there was not much bad conditioned path. However, the path had several big V-character grooves as altitude decreases, and its groove becomes a river in case of rainy weather. The bottom of the trench was clay and easy to slide, and had the mud. I walked carefully on the top surface without walk in the trench.
I arrived at the Okutama Terminal Station crossing road at 12:00 pm.
Since I walked tied to a schedule, I was difficult to eat the lunch with relaxing atmosphere on the mountain path. However, I was tired and had not the stomach for lunch. I thought I'd refresh the wet body with tiredness and sweat.
I went to the hot spring "Bathhouse Moeginoyu." The bathhouse was located along the riverside of Tamagawa River that separated a few hundred meters from the Okutama Terminal Station. I bathe in the onsen and changed my clothing to a dry one, so I felt better and cheered up.
